Inside Schools Visit

Thank you to Lydie from Inside Schools for visiting Equality Charter School in early December.

We were pleased to have Lydie tour our school - she got to know our leadership staff, observed classrooms, and spoke with staff and scholars along the way. She also visited both campuses and was able to see how we intentionally transition our scholars from middle school to high school.

Here's a sneak peek of our review...

Founded in 2009, Equality Charter is a solid, well-run choice for middle and high school students in the northeastern section of the Bronx. The school ably serves many children with disabilities who make up one-fifth of the population. Equality offers all-girls and all-boys leadership groups as well as a social skills group for introverts. Some children take on internships outside school, including work as dental assistants, in pediatrics or in TV work, and others may apply to work as paid tutors in school.

Thank you Lydie & Inside Schools!

Equality's Adult Programming

In Fall 2015, Equality launched Adult Programming. Errol Olton, a dedicated staff member who has been with us since our inception in 2009, has been the driving force behind this initiative.

Research shows that the #1 predictor of a child's academic success is the education level of the mother. Schools usually focus on the children, not the parents. But at Equality we have made the commitment to do whatever we can, considering our limitations, to also support our parents.

Last year we launched Family Education courses to promote positive parenting skills. This year we launched Wellness courses, focusing on healthy eating habits and zumba. Check out posts on our Adult Programming Facebook Page!

Now we have launched our most exciting line of programming - Career Education courses! We are offering teacher certification preparation classes and High School Equivalency preparation classes.

All of these programs are FREE to adults in our school community (staff, parents, family members) as well as the Bronx community!

It takes a village to raise our scholars, and we are committed to supporting the entire village the best that we can.

Equality's First Beat Box Performance

At Equality Charter School, we value our scholars have a variety of opportunities to express themselves. This year, our High School music teacher, Ms. Tibbetts, hosted our first winter concert with Novus, our singing group.

One of the highlights of their show was their Beat Box performance. They worked tirelessly to write their own holiday beat box version of "Deck the Halls."

Career & Literacy Movie Trailer

At Equality Charter High School we have a course entitled "Careers & Literacy."

This course is designed to give scholars the opportunity to examine their post-secondary options based on their aptitudes, skills, and interests. They learn about decision making in regard to academic and personal goal setting while designing action plans to achieve their personal and professional goals after Equality.

Recently, the class completed work on Self Esteem, which is essential to their success. View the Movie Trailer Here that highlights some of the work that Ms. Warfield did with her 10th grade class.
